The Future of Representative Democracy

The aim of this research project is to explore the future of representative democracy.

In recent years, an increasing number of analysts claim that the mechanisms of representation that lie at the heart of existing democracies are afflicted with problems.

How plausible are these claims about the decline, even disappearance, of representative democracy? We are going to address such claims by re-examining the past, present and future of the ideals and institutions of representative democracy.
